LOTR – If Gandalf was part of an IT team …

LOTR – If Gandalf was part of an IT team …

Once i have finished looking for Lord Of The Ring extended version for the forth time, i asked myself on the role of Ganfalf in an IT team. What could be his role , his function ?

The one who recruit people…

He is kind of Human Resource and is involved in recruitment 🙂 It’s important for co-workers to have a word to say about future resources !

The one who knows a lot…

He has a lot of knowledge & lots of experiences. He seems to be an Expert, a Senior for his job !

The one who talk to the boss…

Hard task to speak with the “Head of”. This task is clearly dedicated to the Project Leader. He looks like a great project leader becose he does not relay preasure 🙂

The one who do the job…

Kind of “little hands”. He does not hesitate to  get his hand dirty. Maybe a Developer or a Tester.

The one who you can talk with…

Kind of a social reference. When you are stuck, lost or just if you want to share something… Project Leader, Scrum Master ?

The one who provide you resources…

Project Manager can offer you some resources. On a different point of view could be an Infrastructure Povider.

The one who decide who is doing what…

Project Leader can decide this kind of things.

The one who organize meetings…

Business Analyst maybe?

The one who decide way to do things…

Of course a Technical Architect!

The one who is available for other clients…

A Consultant who is sharing it’s services.

Conclusion

Even if he is doing it right, he is handling to much roles! He does not have any backup and seems that to many things depends on him (and only him). For “logical” choices he allows other to participate in collegiate choices. On the other hand, for keystone choices, he make arbitrary choices and everyone is following without saying anything (without debating). To be clear, it is a stroke of luck that the quest succeed 🙂
